Chung Yuan Journal of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language

 CYJTCSL is an academic journal. This journal is to provide a platform for all the TCSL scholars to exchange research ideas, and its goal is to promote Chinese language education, research of TCSL, TCSL education pedagogy, and promote Chinese culture.

Introduction

   Based on the philosophy of "Holistic Education", the aim of our faculty is to train students to be professionals in the field of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (TCSL). The structure of our courses is particularly designed for the needs of teachers of Chinese language. It covers from Chinese literature, education, linguistics, instructional technology to mass media. During their four years of training, our students would not only gain comprehensive knowledge in this area, but will also explore the differences amongst various types of culture.

History

  Chung Yuan University is the forerunner of TCSL in Taiwan to offer Bachelor degree in this subject (2002). To enhance the academic excellence we believe that the continuity would guarantee research quality and strengthen background knowledge in the realm of Chinese language teaching. Therefore, in 2007, we began to run Master degree.

Teaching resources

  To ensure the quality of research, teaching and learning, our faculty provides multimedia classroom, graduate student research centre, multimedia classroom for graduate students, and a library which owns abundant of collections of relevant books, journals, multimedia training software as well as copious digital equipments.

 

Future development

1. More recruitment activities in local high schools.
2. More recruitment activities for oversea Chinese and train them become TCSL teachers and encourage them to return the country for Chinese  education.

3. Expand international network for not only recruiting more educators from different countries come back to CYCU for short-term TCSL  professional development training program, but also for sending more of our pre-service teachers to different countries for field teaching.
4. Future develpoment on the following fields: train Tcsl who can teaching advanced level, publish more research studies on TCSL in different  locations, develop more studies on multimedia assisted Chinese instruction, develop the connections with relevant market companies and  promote international academic exchange among scholars.
